Is Chevy’s New Colorado ZR2 a Raptor-Slaying Midsize Truck?
With a high-performance suspension setup, and the agility of a midsize truck, Chevy’s new Colorado ZR2 brings the heat to Ford’s off-road king.
All hail the Ford F-150 Raptor — that’s what everyone’s been saying since the new-generation, off-road superstar hit dealerships. But, unless you’re oblivious to the truck segment, you know that there’s a bow-tie-wearing midsize truck that’s ready to eat the Raptor’s lunch.
Ford Truck Enthusiasts staff has put the new ZR2 through its paces, and were definitely impressed with the fluid and confident handling. The Multimatic spool-valve shocks truly deliver impressive performance on and off the road. That being said, it was hard to judge the truck as a whole after a brief stint at the wheel. Having spent considerable time in the 2017 Raptor, we still believe the Blue Oval truck is king.
This video by the good folks at The Fast Lane Truck pits the diesel and gasoline-powered Colorado ZR2, against the Raptor Supercab and even the mighty Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. It may sound like an unfair arrangement, but we truly believe there’s something to learn from the most capable off-road midsize trucks on the market.
