Reality TV Star Kim Lewis Shows off Her 1978 F-150

Despite what some macho folks have to say, a vintage Ford pickup is a classy girl’s best friend.

Every now and again you get an assignment that throws you for a loop. Recently, I was assigned to write about a reality TV host and her classic Ford truck.

You may remember Kim Lewis from the show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” where she, along with a crew of experts had to completely renovate a house for a needy and deserving family — on an abbreviated schedule. My girlfriend said it was like Overhaulin’, but with houses. Neat.

Now, she’s started a company called Kim Lewis Designs, where she decorates and renovates homes all over Texas. A large part of her brand is a 1978 Ford F-150 she’s nicknamed “Pearl,” an apt nickname given the robin’s egg blue and white color scheme. Do we have your attention now?

Apparently, she gets recognized in the truck regularly in and around her hometown of Austin and beyond. It’s a great idea to have a recognizable gimmick when you’re in business for yourself, and a classic Ford pickup truck will have all of the utility needed to make Kim’s clients dreams come true.

More than just a prop, the truck gets used for its intended purpose at jobs all over the Lone Star State. “Pearl and I are two peas in a pod,” says Kim. The truck has just the right amount of patina, and short of a modern diamond-plate toolbox in the bed, it looks like it stepped right out of the late seventies, right down to the Mexican blanket seat cover.

In addition to her design work, she’s a motivational speaker and an international philanthropist, campaigning for women’s rights in places like Ethiopia and Ghana. Hopefully, female entrepreneurs like Kim can spring up all over the world – I wonder what kind of trucks they’ll drive?
