2024 Ford F-150 Will Receive a Mid-Cycle Refresh, Right on Schedule
Following the cadence of the prior-ten model, the 2024 Ford F-150 will bring forth a few notable updates.
The 13th generation Ford F-150 debuted for the 2015 model year, ushering in some major changes to the venerable pickup’s powertrain and other mechanics, but perhaps more importantly, aluminum body panels that helped it shave considerable weight. The F-150 was then treated to a mid-cycle refresh for the 2018 model year before 2021 marked the debut of the 14th gen version. That seems like only yesterday, but in reality, we’re entering the 2023 model year already, which means that we would expect a mid-cycle refresh to happen with the 2024 Ford F-150. Now, that certainly seems to be the case after Ford Authority recently spotted a 2024 Ford F-150 prototype out driving around.
As one might expect, the front and rear portions of the 2024 Ford F-150 prototype are clad in thick layers of camo, which is par for the course when an automaker is testing a vehicle with styling changes. This means that as has been the case in recent history, we can expect the refreshed pickup to get a few tweaks to its front fascia, lighting, and perhaps even the tailgate, which could represent the biggest change.
In fact, Ford Authority speculates that the the 2024 F-150 could mark the debut of some sort of multi-function tailgate much like the ones present on Ram, Chevy, and GMC pickups already. Ford filed a patent for something similar earlier this year, so this certainly seems like a safe bet. It’s also worth noting that there are EPA exhaust tips on the rear of the pickup, which could signal that new powerplants are being tested in the F-150, too. Finally, interior updates are likely to happen as well, with Ford’s new Google-based infotainment system possibly making an appearance for the very first time.
As for the F-150 Lightning, it isn’t clear if the EV pickup will receive any updates alongside its ICE counterpart, but the next-gen model is slated to ride on its own dedicated platform, so it figures to diverge more moving forward. There’s no word on when that might happen, but we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for that forthcoming change as well.
