2023 Ford Super Duty Prototypes Spied
Andre Smirnov from TFL Truck shares new spy shots of the 2023 Ford Super Duty prototypes and hints at the possibility of a hybrid variant joining the upcoming lineup.
We can always count on The Fast Lane Truck to bring exciting spy shots of upcoming vehicles. Even in its most recent video, the YouTube channel does not disappoint. Andre Smirnov from TFL Truck breaks down new spy shots of Ford’s 2023 Super Duty range. Smirnov also offers his insight on possible F-250 Super Duty variants. The prototypes were spotted testing in New Mexico and Arizona.
As with most prototypes, the trucks in the spy shots sport heavy camouflage. Andre reckons that Ford’s upcoming Super Duty lineup will feature a new grille, bumper, headlight, and taillight design. However, TFL Truck’s managing editor expects the upcoming lineup to carry forward the current platform and body structure.
“I don’t think it will change that much because uh these new trucks came out in 2017and the chassis was already beefed up in a huge way for this new generation of the truck,” reasons Smirnov. He further adds, “So I see this as an incremental change.” According to Andre, Ford might also offer the 2023 Super Duty lineup with a range of new powerplant options.
Suppose Ford offers the 2023 Super Duty with a hybrid powertrain and vehicle-to-load (inverter) capability. In that case, these trucks can power a wide range of appliances like the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning.
A truck sports a very unusual exhaust pipe in one of the spy shots, and Ford might be using the exhaust pipe as part of emissions equipment. However, the “unique” exhaust pipe could also be part of a hybrid powertrain. With the growing popularity of the F-150 hybrid, Andre reckons that the Blue Oval brand might also offer the next-generation Ford Super Duty with a PHEV powertrain.
“I don’t think it’s going to be the same as an F-150 Hybrid. I think it’s going to combine maybe a V8 engine from the current Super Duty, maybe a 6.2-liter V8 that they currently have in their base models. Maybe even the 7.3-liter larger gas V8, which is their ‘Godzilla’ engine and combine that with an electric motor and of course their heavy-duty version of their 10-speed automatic transmission,” said Andre.
