Front License Plate Mount

Front License Plate Mount
Anyone tried to remove the front license plate frame? I'd like to put a smoked glass (plastic) frame on but the factory frame wraps around to the inside of the bumper. Thought I would see if anyone else has done it before I start removing things to see exactly how it's attached.

I know others have done it ... the thread was on this forum. I actually took a good look at it today and gave up. I was going to remove it entirely, but getting it off looked to be too much trouble. I'm an 'early' quitter on such projects. It doesn't bother me enough to go the extra mile.

This is not a hard project. All you need is something like a small flat blade screwdriver. You will also need to get under the front bumper to release the two clips on the back side of the bumper, then release the two you can see at the top of the bumper. Remove said license plate and you are done. Takes about 20 seconds. Or if you are real impatient you can do what another guy did, just rip it off.

Thanks! Sounds easy enough. I briefly took a look from under the bumper and there seemed to be a plastic shroud obstructing access. I did the early quitter thing because it was cold and starting to get dark. I'll pick a day when it's warmer. The next step will be figuring out how to mound the new frame.

The problem I had with the clips behind the bumper is that I pulled one corner of the license plate out too far which would lock the other clip. Solution: depress clip, pull out license plate just a fraction of inch. Do the same to the other clip, then pull license plate straight out.
I pulled the front plate to install a "invisible bra" (3M film) to protect the front from rock chips. The weatherman say's 80 degrees and calm tomorrow so it should be a good day for an install. If anybody is interested, I'll post my results of the invca-shield.
After my brother showed me what 2 years of highway driving did to the front end of his black expedition, it was a little easier to plop down the 300 hundred dollars for invca-shield.
