New diesel owner

After some negotiations I have ended up with a 2015 F250 Lariat 6.7L crew cab truck. This will actually be my first diesel since back in the farm days with the ol chevy 6.2L. My last super duty was a 2000 F250 with a V10. I am coming from the Ecoboost F150 XLT sport package 4x4, to a 2015 F250 with a 6.7L with 3.55 gears and e-locker.

I've been reading a lot about the shudder problem, but it hasn't scared me away. Little to late now as we signed the deal yesterday. I found the truck at a dealer in Nebraska at a hell of a discount on the sticker. They were looking to get this one moved to make room for the 17's, and it just worked out to upgrade. Hope that it treats me as well as the ecoboost has the past year and a half.

here was the original sticker, They knocked 10K off right off the bat, got them down to 50K sticker and ended up with 7500 in equity on my trade, so went for an upgrade!

Very nice truck. I know you will enjoy all the power and capacity it has to offer.

very nice, study up on the emissions system so you know what it is all about.

Also the DEF and when to fill it up.

Do it at a separate time so that you don't mix fuel with def or the other way around.

I've been reading up on the DEF as well as what brands people are using. I don't think any of the stations here local have a DEF pump, but looks like it's readily available at Walmart in a pinch. A co-worker has been running the Tractor Supply brand ( TerraCair Diesel Exhaust Fluid, 2-1/2 gal. - For Life Out Here ) for over 50K miles. Reading some of the averages, it looks like people are refilling or topping off the DEF tanks every 4-5000 miles.

I test drove a 2017 with a 6.7L and it was very smooth and powerful, almost didn't feel like a diesel. I might miss my 18.5-19mpg from the ecoboost but i think the extra torque will be worth it!

Any def will do. I use blue peak, sold at wally world.

5K on average with heavy towing. Less regens.

No towing, less def useage but more regen.

Don't fill till less than 200 to empty. System needs to be able to see a complete refill event to keep it from being confused.

I'm surprised that a new 2015 is still available.
I see it here from time to time in the middle in nowhere but I guess anything is possible.

Congrats on the new truck.

I don't like waiting for the countdown on the DEF, but I usually wait to see the DEF less than 1/2 full message and then a 2.5 gal jug tops it off. I'm not a tech and I believe senix is... Knock on wood, I haven't had an issue. I've used BlueDef, the Ford stuff, and the bulk DEF at the pumps without any issues.

As long as your 2015's got the latest flash you shouldn't get the shudder.

Congrats! Nice truck, you're going to love it and depending on how often you tow heavy, you very well may see close to 18 MPG's. I have seen over 20 MPG empty, but that was cruising at 70 with the wind at my back coming home on that trip facing the wind I was getting about 17. Still pretty good for a big ol truck!

I was surprised as well Ricohman. I had my Dad drive by and check it out on the way to a cattle sale, he took a pic of the odometer and they even let him test drive it to the sale and back. He put about 35 miles on it round trip and he said it drove outstanding. So he put about half the miles of it's life so far.

I'll have the dealer check on the latest update before it's picked up.

I tow a 26ft enclosed trailer about 4-5 times a year around the area, we towed to Mena Arkansas to ride trails last year, so maybe 6 times total. Then my smaller trailer with a small tractor/bush hog/ box blade back and forth to my brother in laws dear lease. Even at 17 or 18 mpg, that's WAY better than my old 2000 F250 with a V10 lol!

I bet it's way better than a 2000 with a V10. I've driven those a few times, including one from Miami to Alaska... I'll never put enough miles on to justify the extra cost of the diesel for better mileage, but the smiles per mile more than make up for it.

Congrats on the new truck. Looks like a beauty. The 2017 has a little more juice, but the difference is not drastic. I prefer the driving position of your new truck. Those trucks are excellent vehicles and will serve you well.

I looked into the changes for the 15 and the 17, and with both sitting at 440hp @ 2800rpm and the 15 having 860ftlbs/tq @ 1600rpm compared to the 17 having 925ftlbs/tq @ 1800rpm, I'm sure it won't be a huge seat of the pants performance feel. 800+ ft/lbs of torque will pull everything I have and then some lol!
