Autolite carb automatic to manual choke conversion

I had to pull the intake off to fix an oil leak in order to pass inspection. I can't see putting a 2BBL carb back on, so I'm in the process of converting my 4100 from automatic choke to manual using the parts from the 2100 that came on it originally.

If there is interest I will document with pictures.

I just did this myself...RTV vacuum hole, swap throttle plate shaft, file a little off the front auto choke mounting boss to clear manual cable bolt, remove choke plate shaft and swap, swap in choke rod with the small spring on it, cap off fresh air vacuum tube.

Be careful on carb/spacer plate/intake...find my thread on this problem and it's solution for vacuum leaks.

I didn't bother taking pictures as there was no interest.

I plan to use an Edelbrock isolation gasket with a T-bird carb spacer as it has the PCV port but is much thinner than the Mustang style spacer in your picture. I was also concerned the holes may be too small on the Mustang style spacer as it was used under the smaller 1.08 venturi carbs.

My 4100 came from a big block car and has the larger 1.12 venturis. The throttle plates are much larger than the 2BBL plates.

I'll look for your thread.

Yeah, I think you are correct that the holes would be too small for the larger venturi throttle plates. I would have thought the T-Bird spacer would have the same or smaller holes. My spacer used to be under a Holley 600cfm List 6919 a long time ago on my 68 Cougar before I swapped the cast iron for the Performer intake.

This is the spacer I'm using. It's marketed as being for a '58 to '63 T-bird with an FE engine. It's sized for the 1.12 venturi Autolite.

I looked at buying that spacer but some peeps complained that the copper tube fell out. Also, it taps from the secondaries, though I'm not sure that makes a whole lot of difference.

Did you find my post?

Yes, I read your post. The isolation gasket links the front and rear venturis together, only separating them left to right. That will allow the vacuum to pull from the primaries. If the copper tube comes out I'll use JB weld.

Looks like that's what they used to install the tube. Let me know how it goes and post a pic or two.
Good luck!

Just to close the loop....I searched and found this ported solid aluminum spacer with PCV ports. Had intermittent vacuum leaks due to the slight mismatch of the stock 68 Mustang/Cougar spacer with the TBird intake.
