1951 F1 exhaust ideas

Hi everyone, truck is almost completed and we are ready for the custom exhaust. Anyone have any ideas for me on what we should do?
The rear of the truck has the bumper which sits kind of low and thought about running out the back under the bumper but I think it will look odd. Some people are telling me to run it to the back but shoot ot out the rear corner on each side between the back of the rear fender and the back of the bed. What did you all do?

Hi Mike,

Well, I searched all over here and your user page and there's no mention of what engine or transmission you have in the truck (your progress looks great btw - bed looks fantastic).

So, we can't much help you until we know if you have the original drive train, IL6/V8, 460 etc. etc.

And it's very important because if you have reengined with a non small block, exhaust is going to be a challange!

How 'bout some more info?

Thanks!

Sorry, thought it was in my profile.
All stock flathead 8, standard 3 on the tree and standard rear end.
Thanks,
Mike

I finally got my tailpipes last week, so I'll take some pics later today. The real question is if you'll be running a spare in the stock location?

My dad had the strait six and had it running just in front of the rear tires. And when that engine gave up the in the 80's, we installed a 425 Old's Rocket and then did the dual one out each side just before the rear tires. We really liked the look.

Pick up a piece of tubing and take a couple metal cloths hangers, tie the tubing up where your thinking of having it come out and step back and look. That way you can find what you like.

Here's a couple of pics. It looks more "obvious" without a bumper. I'll also be adding chrome tips. I wish it were higher but to hang it off the frame without welding this was the compromise.

Just something a little different. My exhaust dumps in front of the rear wheels thru the side of the running boards. The exhaust on each side runs either thru the Dynomax Turbo 20" muffler (nice and quiet) or thru a straight pipe (louder and rumbly) out the same tip. A switch at the shifter opens/closes the electric diverter valves.

It's not really a hot rod without a few toys.

Thanks for the pictures everyone, Ross I went with what you have and was able to get the pipes a little higher and come out in the same area that you did. I also got stainless rolled tips. I think it will add just enough without sticking out too much.
I went with a 2 1/4" system off of Reds's Headers and 50's series Delta Flow Flowmaster mufflers. Id anyone has these please let me know what you all think?
Thanks again and I will post pictures when I get it back in Tuesday of next week.

I wish my guy had worked a little harder at getting them up; I may bite the bullet and get it cut and raised. I'd appreciate some pics of yours when it's done!

Hi everyone, I have some new pictures in my garage of the exhaust and I think it looks great. Also here is a little video that I took with my camera, not the greatest but will show a little more than the pictures. Thanks everyone.
