HOW TO SPEND A BEAUTIFUL SATURDAY - SETTING THE CAB

too pretty to sit around so this was my morning.....

she's tucked away in the garage for now...with 3/4" clearance between roof and garage door frame... waiting for the hood to get re-attached...

later

I've lifted off plenty of cabs with that method and all by myself.

Great job!

Just lifted ''earl'scab on and off myself for trial fit. Used to to steel-mill equpment, so a cab is kind of light...LOL
Really feels good to get things together. Great job John....knew you could do it!!

Looking good John, you must feel really good with all that accomplished. I did the same thing with my panel but with a few more steps involved.

Wow. Still my hero... nice work, John. Wait 'til you put your bed back on by yourself. It could put a twinge in your back if you don't use your lift.

Just don't get in a big hurry. I am pacing myself on my poor boy re-do with your lightning speed. Would like to think I'd be driving mine about the same time you drive yours.

best, himmelberg

but, but.. you're putting that unfinished cab in that beautiful frame?!!

you gonna take it all back off to paint? I assume you test fit before (may be wrong on that)

It is hard to resist setting the cab on that purty frame and sitting in the garage and making vroom vroom noises!!!
That is the craziest crane or lift I have seen......and I was involved with all kinds of heavy euipment. That truck should make it to the supernat's this coming year!!
Nice cab too........what color will it be?

I LOVE seeing project pics! Did you have something to keep the the belt from slipping fwd/back on the doors?..or just luck?
I WISH I had taken action shots of me doing the same process with my 57 Chevy passenger car body...it was epic...and amazing I didn't drop it or kill myself. At one point I had to jump on my engine lift to keep it from falling over with the body. I had cheapo tie straps supporting it to the joists while sliding out the old frame for the new...all by my lonesome.
When I swap over the F500...I'm calling on friends...I'm too skurred these days!

Looks great John! Very inspiring!

One question though, is there any kind of extension in you engine hoist? I've not see an engine hoist that'll get that kind of height, at least I don't think I have. I've got a 2 ton hoist and I never thought it'd have the reach to get the cab up in the air enough to put it on the frame. I'm hoping to put the cab on the frame of my truck next weekend so I can get to mocking up motor mounts.

yeh. mine definitely won't go that high.. mine has the fixed length foldable legs vs the sliders..

bought so that I CAN get the cab off, but JUST barely over the chassis..

looks like the folding can go to 90in, while the slider leg style can go to 117 (both from Harbor freight, lookup 'crane')

Deja Vu

John;

Looks like you planned out your install; to include all future options on the cab.

Progress is always good. Keep going forward !
