I had this code yesterday. It appeared after attempting a plug change. I could not get #2 plug to budge so I put everything back together to go get the plug extractor tool, convinced I was going to break plug. While driving I developed a misfire condition. Returning home I ran the codes, PO171 is the only code returned. I proceeded to replace all the plugs. Problem solved. BTW, #2 and #4 broke while doing the change, all others came out OK. Hope this helps.

if that is your only code it is probably a vacuum leak around the bank 1 side of engine(passengers side)

The list of possible causes for P0171 is long...vacuum leak, MAF sensor issues, leaky injectors, clogged fuel filter. Go back, check your work and make sure everything is put back together properly.

imho becasue the code is for just one bank I would say the maf and fuel filter would be the least likely( but still possible). I would look for a vavuum leak on that head. I also would clean the maf, change the fuel filter and add some Techron...........

* you also need to tell us what engine you have. if the site lets you crate a signature like mine...you will get more help from members if you do that.......

That would help. It is an 05 screw with 148k. Swithed at the MAF sensor with an 04 with 130k. Reset CIL by removing neg. battery terminal. No change in performance. Checked the vacuum lines of the 4WD.O.K. I sprayed a full large can of carb cleaner over the entire motor and no changes. When I drive for 30 minutes or so, there will be a screetching noise and will go away when placed in 4WD. That prob may be the hubs need to be seviced. Im thinking throttle body, cat.converter, or feul pump. I am going to put a monitor on it tommorrow. Does anyone no the proper values? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I replaced #4 plug coil for the 304 code. Unplugged battery to reset code and the 0171 code is gone. The truck still runs like crap. These trucks are to hard to troubleshoot.

running into this same problem with my 04 with a 4.6 and 136k on it, , replaced the plugs in the summer, replaced air filter(fram) replaced the fuel filter last week, took the t.b. off and cleaned it, also replaced the t.p.s. , cleaned the maf and truck runs like hell, @idle it runs fine, but at speeds 30-45 mph, it shutters and bucks.. the cel came on and the only thing i got was p0107, dumped some seafoam in the tank and nothin, still runs awful at those speeds, i did replace the iwe's awhile back, and the newer version soleniod, could that be realted to this, like a vacuum problem? this is really getting to me, so please anyone have a clue, please let me know, thanks folks
