Heater and control valve

My 53 has been changed to 12v before I bought it. The blower motor is a single speed 12v motor. It does not blow very hard especially on defrost. Is this the nature of a single speed? I am looking at replacing it with a two speed but am confused a little. I have seen them listed as having a clockwise rotation. Which one would I need to use? Also the heater hoses were hooked directly to the heater core bypassing the control valve. I tried hooking them up the correct way but the valve would not shut off the hot water running throught the core. Does anyone have pictures of what they used? I want to be able to use the stock pull cable still if possible.

Well it sounds like you need a new control valve - mega bucks for a stock one!

The fan motors in these trucks don't turn very fast or blow very hard singel or two speed. Nothing like today's car blowers. The 2 speed fan doesn't turn any faster, the initial speed is slower. Unless the motor is worn out, I don't see any advantage in replacing it.

There are a few substitutes to the stock shut off that can be used with your current cables - and I know there are threads on them in the "archives." I'd use the advanced search to find them searching for (in quotations) "heater shutoff valve."

Good luck

I am going to do the search Julie suggested. But in the mean time does anyone have anything to add?

Hey Pappy,

There's lots of good discussion on heaters in the archives. Here's just a couple of them. You may want to use the advanced search and see if yo can find the rest.

I think thee stuff abotu heater control valves burried in these as well.

If you just want to get the cable operated control valve replaced, check out Everco/Four Seasons part# 74627. The OE application is a '67 F-250. Autozone only wants $20 for it. Rock Auto is at $23.

(sigh) Everco hasn't a clue. There is no such thing as a 1967 F250 only cable operated heater valve. There are faaar more applications for this valve than that.

Autozone only wants $20 for it. Rock Auto is at $23.

The genuine Ford alternative. It operates the same way, does not look quite the same:

C3UZ18495A .. Cable Operated Heater Temperature Control Valve (Motorcraft YG133) / Available from Ford.

Fits: 1963/67 Econoline // 1965/66 F100/1100 // 1966/77 Bronco // 1967/72 F100/750 // 1973/77 F500 // 1973/79 F600/880.

MSRP: $38.46 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $23.08.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ford once offered a manual control shut-off valve in lieu of this one for vehicles without a cable operated heater valve. You have to turn the **** by hand to open or close the valve.

Members of the 1961/66 & 1967/72 forums say a similar valve is available from autoparts stores.

C5TZ18495A .. Manual Control Heater Water Shut-Off Valve-Similar to C3UZ18495A-but not cable operated (Motorcraft YG130) / Obsolete

Last MSRP: $15.74 / Dealer net cost: $7.87.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has FOUR = 800-816-2894.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has FOUR = 888-727-0418.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has SEVEN = 800-543-4959.

Kinsel will prolly be cheaper. Gina, the partsgal that handles Kinsel's huge obsolete parts inventory, says they sell these parts at the last MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price).

I'm using one I got at NAPA for about 10 bucks. It's cable operated but can be operated by hand under the hood. Wish I could remember the part number but I think the parts guy said its original application was for a 61 GMC (among others). You might give NAPA a shot...
