Heater hoses

Heater hoses
Does anyone have a picture of the heater hoses connected up to the original temperature control valve? My heater core started leaking so it is being fixed. I broke the cable that operates the vent on my fresh air heater. So I ordered new set off cables because the one for the temp control valve has never worked. So while it is apart I thought it would be good time to hook the hoses up correctly to the control valve. A PO of my truck just had the hoses running into the heater core.

Hi Pappy,
It's gotta be tough being senile.
Here's the link for the thread to the last time we all talked about this.

I remembered you sent me the thread. I guess my eyes are failing also. I cannot tell where the 18551 hose is connecting up to. Is it the top tube going into the heater and a hose then will come off the bottom tube to the water pump? Is there suppose to be some sort of a bypass so when the temp control valve is shut off the water will just circulate throught the engine?

I know the feeling!
Go to the link above in the previous post and scroll down to post #13, I've verbally spelled out the flow. 18551 goes to the LOWER inlet on the heater core. The upper on the heater core is the return to the water pump.
Here's another thread about this. Look at post #7 the bottom text under the pictures for the routing using the part numbers:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-question.html
There are two types of valves: one is just a shut off and the other is a bypass. The stock valve is a shut off type. All it does is prevent warm coolant under pressure from the water pump to "bleed off" up to the heater. With the bypass you would need to put a "T" in the return line from the heater to allow for constant circulation back to the water pump.
If you still need help let me know!

Hey Julie. Found out why the control valve was not hooked up by PO. I had to replace my heater core and thought while it was apart would hook up the control valve. I had no heat. Water was not able to flow throught the control valve. Thinking I will order the one from Vintage Ford that says is for 57 thru 66. Looks close enough to original I should be able to make it work.

Those are actuated with the control cable for "Temp" on your heater panel, and that mechanism corrodes and fails if you never turn on the heater (poor circulation caused corrosion).
The newer valve should work fine with some mounting and cable hook up adjustments.
Remember, hose out from the valve to the heater core goes to the LOWER tube, then out the top one back to the water pump.

Here are two more, neither is like FAC18495A, the one you want.
FDA18495D .. Heater Water Valve / Use with Fresh Air or Recirculating Heater / Fits: 1948/60, mounts on the engine.
B8C18495A .. Heater Water Valve / Use with Fresh Air Heater / Mounts on the fender apron / Fits: 1957/60.
Neither of these are available from Ford,
FAC18495A isn't either.

The site I am looking at is Sacramento Vintage Ford :: 1.888.FORD.100. The part number for the part I am looking at is 08299-1. Are we looking at the same web site?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what heater valve they are selling that fits 1957/63's.
1957/60 valves are not the same as 1961/63 (64/70 and etc), which is the inline valve I listed.
There's no such Ford part number of 08299-1.
