Airbag/Steering wheel removal
Hey guys,
I have to replace my steering wheel angle sensor. Does anyone have a diagram of the steering column or knows where this sensor is?
I seen a website that has a Mercedes steering wheel angle sensor and it is under the steering wheel itself. So the airbag, and steering wheel have to be removed to get to it.
I dont know, I have never heard of such a thing before a few days ago when I pulled a code, and it was a C1277 code which is steering wheel angle sensor. Then I erased the code and it gave me a C1998 code which is the advance trac module has to be calibrated. Somehow when I erased the steering wheel angle code it threw the module out of adjustment? I dont know Im guessing here.
Anyone got any ideas or diagrams of the steering assembly?

sensor location
i have the same code that i am trying to research for my 2010 fusion that has dtc #C1277 steering wheel sensor 1 and 2 failure. which also set a dtc for the traction control? from what ive learned through several forums and the dealer is that the "tilt sensor" (aka, steering wheel sensor) is that it is a part of the air bag assembly and once installed must be recalibrated and can ONLY be calibrated at the dealer.

I went through this in my wife's Explorer. On that one the steering angle sensor is part of the clock-spring assembly. The advancetrac on that vehicle uses the abs computer for control. In the case of the Explorer any time you changed a component in that system you had to have a way of reinstalling the as-built info into the abs computer. In that case I was able to use a ngs scan tool to retrieve the info out of the pcm and then load it into the abs computer. After that to calibrate the sensor you turned the steering wheel from lock to lock. Sorry for the long answer but it is an involved process.
