I know this is an old thread, but I just recently went through a similar issue. Purchased AE with the Ford bundle on 3/6/15 and received it 3/9/15. Read the book, installed the software (v13 Giotto) on a windows 8.1 laptop. I could connect to the ABS, OTC, GEM, and airbag but I couldn't connect to my PCM- error message saying couldn't connect or not supported on my 2001 7.3 X. Next I tried it on a windows vista laptop and still had the same problem. After research, I found that the PCM is on the SCP protocol and the other modules are on the ISO. I tried connecting to a friend's 01 F250 7.3 and couldn't connect to his PCM either. Contacted AE and sent them the logs. Sent the proline connector back and was informed that there was a bad chip in the connector. AE sent me a new connector and every thing works perfectly.

Just in case anyone stumbles across this thread and doesnt already know, SCP means Standard Corporate Protocol. For our trucks, that's J1850 PWM, at 41.6k baud.
