As far as the problem goes, the overdrive servo pistons has a small e clip the holds the servo together, this clip is known to break and fall down into the valvebody and jam the valve for 4th gear. If you can find a shop that is willing to remove the valvebody and check this out you might be able to fix it without rebuilding it.

Just so you know sometimes when the clip brakes it can cause the overdrive band to burn, once the pan is off you should be able to tell by the smell of the fluid and of any black debris in the bottom of the pan. You may end up having to rebuild it anyways, I would say that you have a 50-50 chance.
So I found this thread through another on f150s. you note in here that this was an issue with the 4r75w am i safe in assuming it would be a good possibility this is my issue with the 4R75E In my 05 f-150? does exactly what the ops post states drives fine as long as over drive is off. with o/d on it essentially goes into neutral

Any help would be great cause its my work truck and i don't want to damage it farther but can't afford to leave it home.

thanks

The overdrive band has to apply during the 3-4 shift, if it doesn't apply it will feel like a neutral because the forward drum is released during that shift, so yes your description of your problem could be the stuck valve but you will need to remove the valve body to find out.

It is common to have the e clip and or the snap ring to break and pieces can get caught in the valve body and prevent the valve from moving, but I also see the band broken and or burnt as well.
