I have a 01 with a 2.3 that has a dying tranny. It has 220k on it. I found a tranny from an 01 with a 3.0 that only has 34k on it. Can I swap out the bell housings on these so I can install the good tranny behind my 2.3?

 

Let me add a little info. I can't remember what trans code the trucks have but they are both the same. I checked that to make sure. I pulled the 3.0 trans out and it has bolts around the inside of the bell housing that go into the trans itself. I'm assuming that the bell housing can be removed and changed for whatever engine it is going to be mated to. Has anyone ever done this?

 

I would check the gear ratios for 1st, 2nd and 3rd between the two transmissions. I seem to remember the V-6 applications had a different set of gear ratios because to the torque/RPM differences.
