Water pump removal question

I have a 1995 F 150 4.9. My daughter wrecked the truck and I am trying to put it back together. The fan is bent and needs to be replaced.I cannot take the fan off without removing the large nut and pulley. Does anyone know if the pulley bolts will clear the space if I cut the fan off. The question is if the fan is out of the way will there be enough space to remove the bolts holding the pulley and water pump? Thanks

Kind of lost.. Are you replacing the water pump or just the fan? If you cut the fan off you will still need to remove the "big nut " in order to get the pulley off the the water pump. If you remove the fan and the shroud there is plenty of room to remove the water pump and leave the rat in place ( if that's what your asking )

If you cut the fan off you will need a new fan and a fan clutch. I would just undo that " big nut " and the fan will fall off the water pump. The actual fan bolts to the fan clutch, the fan clutch screws on the front of the water pump via the " big nut "

IF you just wish to replace all with new ( water pump, pulley, fan clutch, and fan ) yea you can just hack the fan off and unbolt the water pump. Not sure the parts store will like the core with the extra stuff on it tho. Put some cardboard in between the area your working on the back of the rat. to help keep from damaging the fins in there.

Water pump

Sorry i wasn't clear. I want to take the water pump and pulley off. I was wondering if the fan is cut off will there be enough clearence for the pulley bolts to come all the way out once the fan is gone. I have the wrench set but have conflictinginformation as to whichway the large nut is turned to get it off. The manual says it could go either way. The wrench that is supposed to go on the puley bolts only gets the top two and hits the bottom two bolts. I mention this because I have not dealt with this type of Water pump. Thanks

You have to that the fan clutch nut off in order to get the pulley off the water pump. Does not matter if the bolts will come out with the nut there. The pulley will NOT slide off with that big nut on there.

Left hand threads! Just did one of these last summer on an 86 carb 4.9 bronco..it was fun..... I broke the fan clutch b/c either I tried to go the wrong way (conflicting info too) or something. I after turning it finally I yanked towards me and the fan clutch literally snapped off. New oens like 40 bucks and by now if the truck has tons of miles replacing it is a good idea.

Thanks for the information concerning the nut. Would you now if they changed whichway the nut turns on the 1995's? Thanks

Not sure have not done one on a 1995 sorry. Go pick up your new one at the parts store and look at the threads. Or if you not going to replace it stop in at your local REAL parts store and ask the counter people to look at a new pump and see if its left or right hand thread.

Last one I did was a GMC jimmy and I just kind of smacked the wrench with a drilling hammer one way a few times and if it did not come loose then I smacked it the other way LOL

no left handed threads too

its real simple principle

look at the way the fan turns

it turns in the direction that tightens the nut

safety feature so if u dont have it tight enough and start it

it wont fling the fan off killing half a dozen people...
