My wife and I just pulled home a 1951 Ford F6 Cab over Engine Marmon Herrington truck; boy is that a mouth full. I have done some searching and have called Marmon about any kind of manuals but they told me they are no longer available and the link I found on this site is no longer any good. Does anyone have information on this truck? Looking for Spec Sheet, Service Manual, and parts breakdown, anything I can find in print. Any and all help would be appreciated. While I am typing I am in need of a V8 engine dog house and passenger running board, battery box cover/step for the truck. Hope to get pictures up as soon as I can. Michael

I love COE's and the look of the MH's what kind of bed does it have? a Dump truck maybe? I know of a 1941 COE MH here locally but pretty rusty. where are you located?

Welcome to the FTE family, and to the M-H family. Like Owen (1952) said, Chuck Mantiglia is your main resource for the M-H aspects of the truck. Owen posted the link to Chuck's web page.

I see from your profile that you live in Missouri. What part of the state are you in? From the description of your truck I'm wondering if you bought the one that was for sale in Kansas recently. Here's pics of it. If this is not it, we'd love to see pics.





Finding the exact Parts and Maintenance Manual for your model will not be easy. Chuck may have it, but you'd have to understand that being a one man operation he doesn't have time to spend standing at a photocopier to make you a copy. I got a copy of my manual from him, and one for Owen and a couple others since, when I delivered my axles and transfer case to him to rebuild. I took his manual to Staples to do my own copying. You mentioned the thread where Rab from Canada posted info and a pdf link to his manual that he got right from M-H. I've since tried to open that link like you did and have had no luck. That manual would be a close fit but not exactly correct for your truck. If Rab doesn't drop in here I'll see about doing him a private message about it. Basic Ford service and parts lists/diagrams can be found in the Ford Service Manual and Chassis Manual that are commonly available on eBay.

The below pages of the "R" series flier from 1951 will also give you information, but will not be specific to your truck. The "R" series only went up through the F-5 models. Note in this brochure that your truck is included in the "V" series.

The one you show in the pictures is the one we bought. I will post some better pictures as soon as I can get to it. We picked up the truck last week for $1800 then drove an extra hour to a big truck junk yard and picked up 6 “lock ring” wheels so we could get the Widow makers off of the truck ASAP. Got all six, 20 inch 5 lug wheels with tires that hold air for $200, to me it was a big deal and a good price.
The engine is a flat 6 that turns by hand, I am going to get it running but I already have a flat 8 to take its place. The only other plans I have for it right now is to put a NV4500 5 speed transmission in it to make driving it on the road a little more practical. If anyone has print on this truck I will gladly pay for the copies plus the shipping.

 

It's a great looking truck. You'd mentioned in your first post about the V8, but I wondered from these pics if the truck was an I-6 from the lack of, or missing, badge on the front. Sure is a fair price, and you had great luck finding the wheels and tires. The sychro 5 speed will be nice to have.

Good luck finding the book for the truck. I assume the truck still has its big MH plate over the windshield. That gives you the model and MH number. The manuals are specific to each model or group of models, but others will help with primarily maintenance issues. Sometimes you see the manuals on ebay, plus some of the big ebay sellers have manuals for the bigger models. Much of the maintenance info is common sense, but it's nice to have the manuals.

BTW, where is that big truck yard where you found the wheels? I'm through that part of Mo/Ks every-so-often and would like to see if I can find the wheels I need for my trucks. Stu

 

Welcome on board. When you switch from the I6 to a V8 you will need to replace the dog house, fire wall to dog house plate and I believe the upper and lower radiator valances. Good luck on the rebuild.

 

Seems to me that keeping the six would make some sense given the above. Stu

 

Have been doing more homework on my new truck and come to find out it has the optional 254ci big six in it. As long as she is in good shape I think I am going to stick with it. Would be cool if I can find an aluminum head for it in the mean time.
Thanks for all the help so far with information, Chucks trucks is hooking me up with a Marmon Herrington manual and some sales information to get me started. Going to pull the gas tank next week to get it boiled out and start from there.
Truckdog62563, you were asking about the wheels I pick up. Well I don't know the name of the place, a guy we met eating lunch after we picked up the truck told us about it and gave us directions to get there. It is in Elderado Kansas in the middle of a farm field outside of town, I am looking for the paper we wrote the directions on, if I find it I will get you a copy.
