Glad Chuck is able to help with the manual. I would appreciate the directions to the wheel place. My brother lives in Manhattan, so it would be a good side trip sometime when I'm out that way. Stu

Thanks for all the help so far with information, Chucks trucks is hooking me up with a Marmon Herrington manual and some sales information to get me started. Going to pull the gas tank next week to get it boiled out and start from there.
Truckdog62563, you were asking about the wheels I pick up. Well I don't know the name of the place, a guy we met eating lunch after we picked up the truck told us about it and gave us directions to get there. It is in Elderado Kansas in the middle of a farm field outside of town, I am looking for the paper we wrote the directions on, if I find it I will get you a copy.

Will have some pictures next week!
Hey Stu, that Eldorado KS is only about 20 Miles from that Auction I went to last year and picked up all those wheels from. There was one other guy there that purchased the other 300 or so tires and wheels, I talked with him and told him I couldn't take them all so I told him if he was coming back for all of his to take whatever I left behind, I ended up picking out 3 or 4 good 8.25 X 20 wheels from his pile that he said I could have so I wonder if he ended up taking them or if he left them??? anyway, I wish I had gotten his phone number...

I love that COE. thing is awesome.

speaking of COE and MH trucks I talked with the fellow who owns this truck and many others, he is going to be selling off all of his trucks, 30's through 50's lots of cool trucks.
I am going to try to meet up with him tommorrow. just to see what he has, ( I have only seen a few of them) any idea what this 41-47 COE MH would be worth? cab is pretty rusty.

Is the IH truck you mention the one next to the 38 39 Ford with the wood bed box (the one that extends over the cab?) he said he's going to sell everything, His dad had the addiction really bad and since he passed away a few years ago he's going to start cleaning out the place. I have yet to see the restored vehicles supposedly inside the wharehouse, I'll try to take lots of pictures.
Havi, I could sure use your yard about right now! I am in residential suburban neighborhood and im honestly suprised I haven't had code enforcement over yet.... knock on wood. lol

I'd get that COE M-H for the chassis and the barrel-nose firetruck or the dumptruck if it had the real short wheelbase!

I agree. The '41 drive train under one of the '38 chassis and COE bodies would be a heck of a truck. If my trucks are any guide (admittedly a big assumption), the main issue would be location of the mountings for the transfer case. On my '51/52 chassis, Ford's standard jig holes allow use of the donor MH frame rails to position the transfer case cross members in the project frame. I guess, too, you could move a '38 body to the '41 chassis if all the body mounts were similar, and if you didn't care about having a '41 VIN on a '38 truck. Stu

That IH is a late 30's D series. My previous post was a bit tongue in cheek, but ya never know, I guess. And here I've been trying to cull my herd down this year, lol.

Hmmmm, wheels are turning, turning, turning!!!! I need more projects, NOT!

I'm not sure why I even torture myself by even looking at these trucks, but I can't help myself, That and I really want see whats inside the sheds.

the 41-47 MH COE has a long wheelbase, the 40 COE dumptruck has a really short wheelbase and I could see putting the 40 COE cab on the MH longwheelbase truck and either a flatbed or a rollback or something??

the 38-39 COE firetruck would/ should be left alone, original. IMO..

Havi, I'll ask how much for the IH,

Off the top of my head I think 101". This wheelbase was developed especially for the coe dumptruck. Being how things get cobbled over the years, I wasn't sure if this was an original dump chassis or not.

I sure like those old Firestone Ground Grips on that COE M-H. Anyone got some thoughts on American-made 7.50-17 tires?? Period-sort of- to 1952? Stu, maybe we talked about this before, but if so, it slipped my mind. Seems it has been coated with graphite paint lately!!

Owen - the only 7.50 x 17 truck tires that I know to be 100% USA made are the STAs that are sold by Universal Tire. Problem is they are road tread. The Tornel traction treads, as I understand, are Mexican, and I don't really think the tread pattern looks like anything that'd be considered period correct. I've found some Power Kings that are in a decent looking traction tread but fear they are from China. I can't say that for certain though and will have to do more research on that. We talked a few years ago about the great looking old Coop traction treads, but I doubt those are still around. I'm getting to the point where I'm gonna have to get off the pot and buy tires, but sure would like to buy US made. Stu

I'm going to look into those military tires for my 52 F-6, if they are cheap I'll probably go that route. just need to make the phone call.

I never did meet up with that guy on Saturday I tried but he must have gotten busy. I'll try later.

Havi, I think it was a 5 Window Chevy? I drove by there and it was gone.

Cheers

Josh
