Help 95 250 stock 241,xxx

last month started having an issue. Truck will not go into Drive from a dead stop. Will go into Drive if you shift from 2nd then up into Drive. Have gone to two transmission shops and no codes come out and no blinking Overdrive light. Now truck won't start. This is my dads rig just trying to help him out.

Id check the bushings on your shift linkage from the column to the transmission see if they are worn if so the transmission may not be in the right position due to the slop try starting it in neutral, try shifting to drive or reverse then back to neutral if nessasary to see if that helps get it in neutral and then if it starts then I'd definately look into your linkages or the bushings. Then if theyre still good the tranny shop should look at the guts from the shift linkage to engagement.

Just to clarify the worn bushings could cause it to not complete the shift and be stuck in between gears on the transmission.

He's right. The bracket holds the column solid and hes right if it comes loose the weight/ leverage of the column could cause the linkage to be misaligned that way as well.
