bought a F150 98 what should I look out for

It might need a serpentine belt, spark plugs changed, and possibly upper/lower ball joints and u-joints if none of that has ever been changed.

Definantly change fluids and filters. To me these trucks are very reliable and shouldn't give you a whole lot of issues I have a 98 F150 with the 4.6L also but I have 237000 mi. on it and have had less problems than some new trucks. Good luck and remember if you do the spark plugs and wires use Motorcraft.

Find out exactly WHEN your truck was made,,, on the models made in early 98' and before, with the 4.6L v6 engines, the lower intake gaskets (the gaskets that are between the block and the intake manifold), after years of use could leak coolant into the cylinder causing engine failure,,, check any and all paperwork that came with your truck to see if the gaskets have been replaced with upgraded ones,,
