92 Ranger transmission identification

I have a 92 Ford Ranger with a 5 speed manual transmission. Based on the user manual one uses SAE 80 gear oil and the other uses ATF. One is manufactured by Mazada and the other by Mitsubishi. Unfortunately they don't give any information on how to identify which one I have. The door tag indicates "M" for transmission. Big help. M could be either Mazada, Mitsubishi or manual. Go figure. I went to the Ford dealer and they punched in my VIN number but they didn't get a hit. The service manager went and looked in a couple books and came back and told me they put ATF in all the transmission. How's that for an answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
