Hey Maybe someone could help me with this I have an 87 bronco
until recently everything seemed to be working just fine with the 4 x 4 now it seems ive got a vibration a squeeking and when im turning it seems to be skipping. If anyone that has had this problem and can help me resolve it it would be greatly appreciated (the 4 wheel drive still works im just worried somethings going to break if I use it )

Your front u-joints (5) are probably dry & binding. If you've never replaced them or the 2 rear ones, do it. To get all 3 in the front axle will require you to disassemble the whole axle.

oh and when i take the wheels off and turn the driveshaft manually everything seems to be tight except where the driveshaft meets the the t-case i havent climbed completely under to inspect the u-joint at the t-cas but it looks like there is some free play prior to the shaft stopping from being in park
however by doing this i really cant determine where the squeek is coming from my guess its from the same location

There's a slim chance that the nut holding the front output yoke on the t-case is loose, but that usually only happens on the rear shaft. It's more likely the u-joint or the slip joint in the middle of the front shaft.
The 3rd u-joint in the front axle is in the middle, just R of the differential. You have to pull the L axleshaft, then the diff, then a c-clip from the inner end of the R axleshaft to get that axleshaft out of the axle.

thanks for the input steve & moto when the weather breaks ill check the u-joint more but its nice to know where to start at

hey thanks guys i climbed under my truck today spun the front shaft by hand and heard that familiar im missing needle bearings clunking sound from both u-joints on the front shaft maybe ill have another nice weather day to even change them out (yeah right)
