jacobs ignition system
I have installed a mileage master jacobs ingition in my 88 f250
460. I can get it started but it runs for only about 2 min then dies.
I suspect the theft feature. But have thoroughly read the instructions for that feature and the instructions for this very problem on the Jacobs web site. But to no avail. When the two wires that attach to the microswitch are open the vehicle starts but only runs 2 min. When the 2 wires are shorted togeather it ownt start. Have tried to reset and it will start but only runs 2 min. Does any one know how to disable this feature?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have not had any luck getting Jacobs service on the phone either. Thanks guys.

I've got the Jacobs Mileage Master on my 94 f250 with the 460 - I've had no problems with Jacobs products.
The theft switch is the problem if it runs for only two minutes. You said you read the instructions, but just to be sure, here goes... there are two switch positions, the one that springs back to the center is the anti theft setting. Start the truck normally, then push the switch against the spring for a good two seconds. Let go, and the switch will self center. The truck should run as long as you want it to.
If it shuts off as you say it does, check the switch for continuity at all positions, replace microswitch if necessary. I have tugged on the wires during an engine repair and slightly dislodged the switch connector - check to make sure it's seated firmly. Good luck!
When you do get it working, remember to flip that switch... Nothing quite as embarrasing as starting up, pulling out of the parking spot and having the engine die. And then not getting it started again in the 15 seconds with the override and having to wait...

I personally was not impressed with the Jacobs system. I bought one for my X a couple of years ago. Had it on for about a week, and something internally failed on it. Sent it in, and they fixed it, and returned it. No other problems after that, but I never really saw an improvement or increase from it.
Now I run the MSD setup and have not had any problems with it, plus I can see a gain from it. The MSD was needed because of the other mods, so that might have something to do with it also.
For the money involved with ignition systems, my personal preference an advice is the MSD, not the Jacobs...

460 with 47000 mi. Has aftermarket Jacobs electronic ignition. Runs fine until it goes up a steep hill and then it acts like it's running out of gas. Engine will not respond to the accelerator, sounds like it's missing and running rough. If I slow down it will start to run smooth again.
Has new sparkplugs, and a rebuilt carb. Doesn't burn oil and starts fine. Good oil pressure and lots of power on the level.
Would really appriciate some help.
Thanks
