Hello all! Around a month or so ago the motor seized on my 1999 ford expedition 5.4L Trition with 300K+ miles. After searching around a bit I found a engine at a yard not far from here with 69k miles, it is a 5.4L out of a 2004 Ford F-150. So I bought it and took it to my mechanic, everything seemed to go fine, except for a little bit of work he had to do to line the exhaust up. But when he went to start it, the starter was out. I went and bought a new starter for a 1999 and he said it died right away, and that the flywheel was different on a 2004 and I needed to get a starter from a 2004. Well, after looking around online for a bit, it seems as though the starter from the 1999 5.4L and the 2004 5.4L are exactly the same? So my question is: Are the Flywheels different from a 1999 to a 2004? Are the Starters then different as well? Was I just reading wrong? Thanks all, I really enjoy this site and have been lurking around on it for a long time now reading from time, to time.

 

FLYWHEEL & STARTER ARE THE SAME FOR BOTH YEARS.

 

Bad starter out of the box? Hmm, who would've thought...
I'd bring it back for an exchange.

 

correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought the 04+ f150's started the 3v 5.4's, and the expy got them 05+. i know there was a heritage edition, but i thought those had 4.2 and 4.6 only, and all were 4x2.
