there is obviously a dwarf under your dash who reaches up and turns the key off now and then

The govoner in the injector pump is sticking. Try removing the fuel filter, draining the fuel and filling it with Diesel Clean, Howes, or your favorite fuel additive. Double or triple the amount called for in the tank, start the engine and let run for a couple of minutes then shut it off. Let it sit for a couple of hours, then go for a drive. Usually this will cure this problem befor the tank of fuel is used.

I was gonna tell you, that you must push in the clutch when coming to a stop, but you didn't give any vehicle info .. Assumptions get made without info!

... ...
  1. Warm up the truck.
  2. Shut it off.
  3. Pull the filter.
  4. Pour it out.
  5. Fill it up with your choice cleaner/lubricator.
  6. Double or triple the mix in the tank.
  7. Start the truck.
  8. Let it run for 1 minute or so.
  9. Shut it off.
  10. Let it set for awhile ... Pretty much longer the better, to a point.
  11. Then take it for a ride.

The point is to get a heavy dose of cleaner/lubricant in the Injection Pump and hopefully get things moving again.

-Enjoy
