Transmission oil change question: Automatic

Ok, I posted my trasmission oil change question in general SD forum a few months back and 6.0 & V10 guys confused the hell out of me. So, here we go again.
I’m hitting 75K miles soon. I did my trans oil change (note: not full flush) at around 45K miles last. A local AAMCO guy said that as long as I replace the oil in drain pan every 20K miles I will not be required to do a full flush. My aim is to flush the oil under the trans pan first and flush torque convertor oil as well. Do a full flush after I hit 100k miles. Now, here are my questions:
#1 Ford never says you need to replace transmission oil filter: is this true?
#2 How much oil does the transpan and torque convertor hold together?

You are right, ford says you don't need to change the filters, but most here do change the filter. When I drain only the pan, it takes 6 qts to bring it back to full. I don't know how much the TC holds. Do you have the instruction for the full flush?

I have instruction but it looks rather complicated, you need compressor etc. I mean, do I really need to do that? A local shop here said $120 labor for full flush and I bring oil, filter, gasket etc. I intend to do a full flush at 100K miles. Any risk in that?

No risk. Here is the instructions LINK. The gasket is reusable. Save yourself the labor and do it yourself.

If you drain the torque converter and the pan and then replace that much fluid you're going to have a big mess on the ground.

After draining both put 8 quarts in the trans and run it for one minute. Then add the rest of what you measured.

When flushing the cooler,, do you have to plug the back transmission port after removing the line to prevent fluid from comming out thru the bypas? Thats what made a mess for me!!

Is that the right fluid?

My 2000 F-250 manual specifically says to not put the Mercon V in the transmission. The instructions that Mark wrote says to put Mercon V in the transmission.

This is from the manual:
Ensure the correct automatic transmission fluid is used. Transmission
fluid requirements are indicated on the dipstick or on the dipstick
handle. Check the container to verify the fluid being added is of the
correct type. Refer to your Scheduled Maintenance Guide to determine
the correct service interval.

Some transmission fluids may be labeled as dual usage, such as
MERCON and MERCON V. These dual usage fluids are not to be used
in an automatic transmission that requires use of the MERCON type
fluid. However, these dual usage fluids may be used in transmissions that
require the MERCON V type fluid.
MERCON and MERCON V type fluids are not interchangeable.
DO NOT mix MERCON and MERCON V. Use of a transmission
fluid that indicates dual usage (MERCON and MERCON V) in
an automatic transmission application requiring MERCON may
cause transmission damage. Use of any fluid other than the
recommended fluid may cause transmission damage.

Ford had Mercon change their Mercron V fluid so we can use it in our 4R100 trans.

Ford change the spec on MERCON V after your manual was written. They issued a TSB stating that MERCON V replaces MERCON in all applications where MERCON was originally specified.
