55 f100 on newer frame?

I want to update my f100 with modern steering, brakes, and all the goodies. I have heard of people putting these on an s10 frame. How hard is this to do? I dont want a show quality truck, just a good safe cruiser for the weekends. Whats the best route to take?

Ah, yes, the weekly frame swap question. It's possible and it's been done, but if you need to ask how hard it is, then I'd say it's more trouble than you want to go to. It requires extensive fabrication and by the time you raise the bed floor to clear the kick up on an S-10 frame, your box will only be about 12 inches or so deep. The general consensus here is always that the best frame to put under one of these trucks is the original. There are a wide variety of options for adding IFS, power steering, disk brakes, etc., etc. to the original chassis. Those options require tons less work to install than a frame swap would be and the upgrades can be done in stages. Frankly, a lot of guys are coming to find that after rebuilding the original suspension with a few leaves removed from the springs, shimming in some more caster on the straight axle, and adding power steering and disk brakes, their trucks ride, handle, and drive almost as well as a more modern truck.

Brandon, I’m very tempted to say poison, but that is not fair to you.

Have you read the “read first” posts, especially the last one (I think) it talks about various suspension swaps. NO frame transplants........... because they isn’t one without a tremendous amount of work and only so so results. Read this post.

(I’m getting very tired of the frame thing, we had better get a sticky because I’m not going to answer them anymore.)

do a search on the subject . i and others have done it , in some cases never finished , or rotting whilst we cuss . personally i'd just go with tweaking the oe frame to get what ya want after being down that road now . i'd do it again if the right set of circumstances present themselves but ..........

He can’t,…….. he must have 25 posts, if that rule is true. (please confirm this, somebody?)

Which, when you think about it,…….. what a dumb idea,…….who needs the search more then a newbie (would they use it, well that is a whole different story). To expect them to know about the Google “trick” is a bit much, that post was a lot of water ago.

With apologies to Julie I have found the search to be not so bad lately, maybe it’s got me trained to try various phases and have mega patience!

Just the ramblings of a delusional old mind poisoned by carbon monoxide fumes and isocyanates.
