new "clink?" from drivetrain...

hey guys, on my 00 F-250 6 spd. i noticed a new sound, i put it in reverse and started letting the clutch out, once it grabbed i heard an odd clink like a u joint or something, pushed the clutch in. kept trying to get it to do the noise again in reverse but it wouldnt so i threw it in 1st and went to take off, CLINK it did it again. tried the same thing as before kept letting the clutch out from a stop and nothing. finally realized that it will make that sound when you first go into reverse from 1st or vice-versa. (like when pulling out of driveway in reverse it will make the noise and when you put it in 1st to take off it will do it again, then not again until you back up.) i crawled under the truck and was twisting the d-shaft with truck in gear engine off and couldnt see any play in the u joint, maybe tranny? o and i could kinda "feel" the clink in the shifter... any help is appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like you grease your slip yoke. You will only be able to feel it from a near or dead stop.

Here's some links (there's a lot out there):

Glad to hear is was an easy and inexpensive fix!

My grease gets pushed out about every year or so and I have to go in there and regrease it. I've pretty much added it to my "routine" maintenance list.
