heads

The heads are similar but I wouldn't swap them. There are just enough differences that can cause problems that it's not worth it. A head swap also requires the matching intake and exhaust as well.
I have a book on the Ford V6, it covers the 2.6L, 2.8L, 2.9L, & 4.0. It's best to look at them as separate engines with just a few parts interchanging. I built up a few 2.6L & 2.8L in the old german built Capri and had a Ranger with the 2.9L.

If your're looking for heads for a 2.9L due to head cracking, which is common in those engines look up World Products. They make aftermarket performance cylinder heads for many engines. They also make a stock replacement for the 2.9L that is much better then stock and they don't cost that much.
