Blinking Tow/Haul light '06 F-450

OK guys I am back for some guidance again. My friend has a 2006 F-450 and he said the Tow/Haul light blinks and the shifts are real slow. He has stopped towing now and it still drives.

I have done some searching and this is what I think. I want your input and/or suggestions on my theory.

I have read everything from toasted tranny to chaffed wire harness across tranny crossmember to the TFT sensor. My guess is the TFT sensor given his symptoms. If I am right the sensor is just to the rear of where the dipstick comes thru the tranny case. 1/4 turn and pull it out. Kinda like a bulb I guess.

Another question, is it necessary to replace the harness while in there as well? Is the Connection listed below the harness I am asking about?

I found these parts on a thread from here:
Sensor (1): 3C3Z-7H141-AA;
Connection (1) 4C3Z-7G276-AA;
Gasket (1): 3C3Z-7C155-DA;
Fluid (10): XT-6-QSP

Thanks again guys for your help with yet another matter.

Neal

The trans is throwing a trouble code when the tow/haul flashes. You usually get a temp spike on the trans gauge in dash when the TFT sensor goes bad, but I seen instances where people reported this was not so. You don't need a pan gasket, the factory is reusable, and you don't need a internal filter either. You don't have to replace the harness unless it is chaffed. You do have to keep your face clear when you pull the sensor out because a few more oz's are going to run out. Needle nose pliers seem to work well when pulling the sensor down after it's turned 90 degrees. You will need between 8 and 9 quarts to replace what drained out, and it might be a good idea to replace the external filter at the same time. All this is a fairly easy job which will take 1-1 1/2 hours taking your time.

So you guys feel it is most definately the TFT sensor?

It is not throwing a CEL and the temp is not spiking either.

The only way to tell for sure is take it to a place where they can read transmission codes preferably a Ford dealer. When my sensor went out the trans would shift fine but once warmed just a little the tow/haul light would flash. Park it over night and it would be fine for a few miles then it would go back to flashing again along with the temp gauge pegged at hot and the warning in the instrument panel saying "check gauges" Others have reported they did not get the temp gauge pegged either hot or cold and check gauge, they only got erratic shifts and tow/haul light flashing.

If I hooked it to my AE (auto engenuity) could I be able to tell for sure what the issue is?

I would assume so but like I said there is no CEL thrown yet. What you think?

You need a special code reader for transmissions as far as I know, and this guys best bet would be a Ford dealer.

AE pulls tranny codes. You don't have to have a CEL thrown in order for there to be codes. Make you sure also have the 8.1 software version(latest one at the website to download incase you don't have it) as that version as bi-directional support for the 6.0.

an anyone help?

I have a 2004 ford 450 superduty and my Tow Light came on and check gauge light as well. The gauge for transmission temp looks like was not working.

We put on computer and it gave no code. Some people suggested to replace filter and sensor in transmission pan and they said 9 times out of 10 that is the issue. Well I replaced and same problem continues. Any Ideas?

You have to replace the transmission temperature sensor, the faulty sensor is causing your problems.
