Started new thread, trying to bring a 2001 250 back to life for a friend. Could put squirt of gas in throttle body and it would start. Put a fuel pump in and cranked it and got a backfire. Seemed locked up next key turn. Took plugs out took belt off. Could not turn engine over forward. Took starter out put screwdriver and moved engine backward. Went to a ratchet on crank. I can turn it over multiple times backward. Forward it comes around to the same spot and stops??

 

if it had dropped a valve or damaged a rod, I don't think it would turn 360 degrees backward, but stick going forward.......... I would assume it has a broken timing chain tensioner or something like that. I would remove the front cover and look inside.

 

Thanks for all the help but I think good Samaritan free labor stopped after fuel pump.
