Tach acting wierd

My 92 f150s tach is acting wierd it was acting fine a few weeks ago then it started just staying around 2000-2500 rpm regardless of if the engine is at that speed actually or not. What could cause this?

I just went thru this same problem with my '92 F150. I found a cluster in my local JY and pulled the tach out and put it into my cluster. Works fine now.
