Quick 10.25 swap u-joint question...

Im on the verge of getting this done, i plan on getting it finished thursday and friday. But i have one quick question.

What has anyone whos done the swap done for u-joints. I searched and didnt find anything this specific. I looked at the specs for the drive shafts and u-joints of both my truck and the 10.25 truck, and the axle part of the u-joint is the same diameter cap. But the 10.25 has the retaining clips on the inside of the caps, where as the 8.8 has them on the ends of the caps.

I think that the 8.8 one will work, but i just wanna see what yall think.

Thanks

I'm not really sure what you're asking..

Do you want to know if you can use the 8.8's u-joints with the 10.25?

if you are asking if they are interchangeable I would doubt it. That being said I've been told you can get u-joints that are different from one side to the other... meaning if you have one size on your differential and another size on your drive shaft you can or should be able to find off set u-joints for it.

The cost of changing the drive shaft end is not that much at a good shop... I got quoted about a 100 bucks to do mine. Something to consider if you feel the u-joints are too small.

Check spicer's catalog to see if the joints interchange: http://www2.dana.com/pdf/K350-1-DSSP.pdf

The F250 driveshaft I am swapping into my F150 uses the same u-joint as what came in the F150. Be aware that the 10.25 flange sits about 3 inches closer to the transmission than the 8.8.

Thanks for all the replies. And the spicer catalog is great.

Here's what i have come up with so far. It seems like the difference between the 8.8 u-joint and the 10.25 u-joint is on the drive shaft end. They use different drive shafts. But on the axle end they have the same size yoke. The axle yoke bearing caps are 1.062" in diameter, and 3.625" from end to end. The only difference is no having the clips on the inside. So it would rely on the retaining ears on the yoke. So in theory it should work. I hope that is a little more clear, What do yall think?

Its only temporary. it just needs to work until i have the new tranny and t-case ready to go in. At which point it will get a whole new drive shaft.

I have a driveshaft from a truck with the 10.25, and it uses the same u-joint as the driveshaft that came with my truck, connected to an 8.8. The shaft uses 1.0625" diameter bearing caps on the driveshaft side, and 1.125" diameter on the axle side. Diesel and big block driveshafts appear to be different, and may have a 1.125" cap in all four points on the rear u-joint - I don't know for sure.

The axle is sitting under the truck, but the shaft is about 3 inches to long. No biggie thou, ill have it shortened tomorrow. Have to wait on brake lines anyways. Other then that its ready to go.

Thanks for the input.

I had the opposite problem in my truck, with a driveshaft for a 10.25 mating to an 8.8, the driveshaft was 3 inches too short
