Exclamation Standard Motor Products CPS

So as some of you know my black CPS took a turn for the worse last night.

See thread:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...uck-broke.html

So of course I had spare CPS to put in there and I did. BUT my spare CPS is THE grey one that resolved out CPS phantom code debate/ideas.

See sticky thread:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...code-info.html

So right now I have my grey one in there and i want to go buy a different one from the local parts store. The one they carry is made by "Standard Motor Products (SMP)" and only will cost me $26.

Questions:

Does anyone know anything about this company?

Does anyone have or had use of their CPS OR any other products?

Regardless of the answers you all provide I do plan on running some minor test/observations to see how MY truck response to this CPS. With the large disclaimer of different trucks like different CPS's.

As always thank you for your time and input...

The Standard brand has been around for decades. Not sure who owns them now. Dana/Spicer owned them last time I looked. They were a #1 Brand yrs ago. it will be interesting to see how your tests come out.

Nolan, a friend of mine took his 97 in for the speed control recall(he had already been in for the gray cps recall). While he was there, they replaced his perfectly functioning gray cps with a "new" gray cps. It's supposed to be an updated one that will be replacing the last gray cps. When it warms up, I'm gonna pull it out and check the part number to see if it's different from the other grays. I just thought I'd throw this out here since you've had such a hard time with cps's..

I wasn't going to post anything until I could check the part numbers for myself. I find it hard to believe that ford has upgraded cps's again without anyone here knowing about it.

I think they are working hard at keeping the news as quite as possible. And since they gray CPS dosnt cause a driving hazard they dont have to say anything.

Need to hear from Ed on this. If there's a new part floating around out there he can find it for us.

I have been told by better people then me that.

1. black ones are best as long as they work. but when they quit working they will leave you stranded.

2. aftermarket ones will work in a pinch.

3. the factory replacement(gray) is better to use then aftermarket, and if it fails it will not leave you stranded. it will let you limp it home.

4. downfall is sometimes they make truck run, hum... not so well.

this info is a conciseness of opinions I have collected not a fact or view of Ford Motor co or myself.

ps: there is no new updated black one avail from Ford or International or any other source that I know of. only gray!

The question was if there is a "newer" updated gray one that Ford is trying to sneak in without letting everyone know there were issues with the old "new" gray CPS.

no new updated gray one either that I am aware of as of yet.

I even called international the other day about this. they had no idea either.

so If Ford is being sneaky they are doing a good job of it.

Thank you Ed.

Im pretty confident that Ford is pretty good at being sneaky. However we need confirmation. I will see what I can work up...
