Mounting stuff on transmission hump

So I need to put a console between the bench seat & dash of an 92 F-350 & a 96 F-150 to hold radios, switchbox, & such. My question is if I mount it with self tapping screws do I have to worry about hitting something when I screw into the truck? Should I avoid using certain size screws? Should I avoid screwing into particular places?
Thanks in advance!

You should be fine using 3/8" or 1/2" long, self tapping screws. Make sure to add a sealant to the screws to keep water from entering from the holes.

The safest bet whenever doing this is get on your back & look first.

Just a heads up when drilling the holes run the drill in reverse or the drill bit will grab the insulation and it will ball up. Ask me how I know.

When drilling through carpet, I use a nail clamped in a pair of vice-grips, heated to red hot with torch or gas stove top to "melt" a pilot hole. Most folks will tell you to use a utility knife & make an "X". I find that leaves a ragged edge & can still cause a "run" in the carpet if the bit or screw grabs a thread.
