2 barrel stock to 4 barrel Edelbrock
Hello all, thanks for all the previous help on questions I have asked; absolutely invaluable !!
Now, in my engine rebuild, I have installed and Edelbrock Performer 390 manifold and Edelbrock EPS 1406 carburetor. Have the engine in and it is ready to fly !! Alas,....the carb throttle linkage is now giving me fits ! I have a 71 camper special with a C-6 automatic which has the kick down rod. I bought the Edelbrock throttle lever adapter (1483) which I was told would do all that I needed to spring up. But, is there something else I should have off of the front of the engine compartment; because the nut and bolt configuration doesn't seem to be all that is necessary to complete this configuration. I have searched the entire site to no avail; sorry if I have missed a previous post. Any info/help/suggestions ??
thanks again,
mark

I put the Edelbrock intake and the 1405 on my truck, I had a friend of mine pick up the throttle adaptor and I have a photo of it in my computer. Send me your email and I will send you the photo. Hope that will help.My email is

Mark I remember having some trouble with it also. I had to extend my linkage bracket over, and just keep fiddling with it until I got it to work. I don't remember just what I did. Seems that the return spring that went to the back is now forward.
I think Edelbrock could improve the design.

I made an astounding discovery much to my dismay!!! First of all, I ditched the kickdown rod after it hung up my carb at full throttle!!! The tranny (C6) will kickdown just fine without the rod when under a load, or I use the B&M shifter (much more fun!!!)
my discovery was that the edelbrock performer series carbs and the carter AFB carbs are the EXACT SAME CARBS!!! I ##### you not, I was at my bros shop he was working on a 390 with the edel carb on it, upon closer inspection, I noticed the "WEBER" stamped on the throttle side of the carb, just like my "CARTER"..I looked even closer and the bolt patterns for the housing, the acc.pump levers, even down to the metering rods and springs, etc etc........only difference was that they just put an edelbrock "sticker" on it, once again ,the old phrase "your only buying the name" came to mind.......
I just wanted to relate this discovery to my fellow FORD enthusiasts......If you have a speed shop , or a friend with the carter, check it oout and see for yourself, they are both WEBER carbs, sold under different names, I wonder if I paid less for the carter name ???? hmmmmmmm????
LOSE THE KICKDOWN ROD!!!!!!

weber manufactures them for edelbrock, I had thought edelbrock bought them out, but the website for edelbrock says they are made by weber, the carter carbs cost slightly more on average than the edelbrock in all of my catalogs, and the edelbrocks are rated for 600CFM but the carters are 625, maybe a different pressure level for testing or a slight variation in design

My Old linkage was for a Holley setup. When i installed the edlebrock 1406 I picked up a used kickdown rod from the junk yard.(same year as mine 1972)
After installing the adapter add-on I had to just bend the kickdown rod to `reach` the side plate of the 4bl...
The kickdown rod is activated/moved as the throtle gets to about 90%open.
I would like to have a picture of someone`s setup to see it also!! OR if someone has done the samething a different way
