97 f250 4x4 auto 351 5.8l wont start
i have a 96 f250 4x4 has 351 5.8l auto its been a good truck always fires right up every time i use it to plow the drive its messing up now it has done it 4 times now cranks but wont start it has spark and fuel in rail you can keep cranking it and it will finally sputter and start like the engine is flooded. once it starts up it runs fine you can shut it off and it fires right back up if you leave it sit for a day it will do it again it has new fuel filter on it aswell i went out tonight and tryed it did the same thing crank crank crank nothing then it will finally sputter and start well tonight i shut it off and tryed to restert it and it started back up but i gave it some fuel and it bogged down so its acting like a fuel problem i also noticed the exhaust smelled like sulpher but it never does it any other time so computer or ?? i have no clue also something strange when you crank it and it doesnt fire within 3-5 secconds engine is sitting still you can tuen the key back towards toe off position whare you see the digital odoniter disapper the motor will kick its self backwards like half a fire just by turning the key back and no the motor wasnt turning before nor was the starter it was all sitting still i didnt know maybe it has unfired fuel in the cylinders and when you turn it back it fires one cylinder and ford had it to whare whan you shut it off it does that to help kill motor i dunno help me out

try the position sensor in the dizy, sounds like it ain't letting the spark go threw at the proper time, you can do a hot test for the spark plugs to see if you are getting full spark. the tool is not to expensive from AZ you said you had good fuel pressure and a new fuel filter so it must be spark, use the tool and see if its a good blue spark, if not then you need to eliminate the spark trouble or the timing trouble, like cam position or crank position sensor.

it seems the coil was the problem it was sparking but not really good i swapped it with another i had laying around and it fired right up plugged the old one back in and got a couple of sputters and nothing plugged the new one back in again and it fired back up so ill let it set and see hopefully that was it seems that way good thing i have spare parts laying around.......

Are there any codes? Have you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge?
