Swapping half ton 4x4 to a half ton 2wd truck is a DIRECT swap. Already done it. Piece of cake. No steering issues either. They use the same steering parts.

I just did a 4wd TTB swap on my 94 f150. The ONLY fab work i had to do was knocking out the rivets for the shock towers because i wanted to use the dual shock from the donor truck, which you dont even need to do. everything is literally bolt up.

Have you thought about cutting the front of the frames from both trucks and welding the 4x4 frame on?

I converted my 88 short bed 150 to 4x4, but I chose the route of swapping my body and engine onto a 4x4 chasis. I did that because to change the suspension components correctly, you have to grind out alot of rivets and change frame brackets. Swapping bodies is a piece of cake.

To change a chasis to 4x4, you have to grind out the rivets in the following brackets to do it correctly:

-front spring/shock towers to covert to dual shocks
-rear-rear spring hangers since 4x4 springs are 1.5" wider
-front-rear spring hangers since 4x4 springs are 1.5" wider
-get rear sway bar end link mounts off the 4x4 frame so you can put them onto the 4x2 frame.

In comparison, I swapped the bodies easily--made a big wooden frame to hold the cab and front clip all in one piece, then lowered the frame to the ground and rolled the chasis out. I then rolled the restored 4x4 chasis under it and jacked it up to the body. Bed of course was just moved using 4 guys.
I have pictures showing how I held up the body, but I don't have enough posts on this site to allow me to attach pictures. If someone wants to see them, send me a pm and I will Email them to you and let you post them here.
