Pictures of the engine pull

I pulled the 240 6 cylinder engine on the 66 truck today and while the pan was clean of metal or sludge I pulled off the two end main caps and as you see from the picture of the bearing it is worn through to the copper, this engine is at the end of it's life and has already been rebuilt once so I will continue looking for a rebuilt or low mileage motor to replace it with, at least I know where I stand, I still have a brand new rebuilt 289 V8 if needed on an engine stand but would prefer to look for a 300 six cylinder and save the 289 for the 64.

Heck thats not bad, the bearing looks worn, but not eaten away. How do the cylinders look? Take some readings if it hasn't been bored over to much hone and install a new set of rings. If the cranks not damaged install some new bearings. Check the cam for wear on the lobes put in some new bearings and slap her back together. That bearing is what they should llok like with extended miles. Good luck

One more thing make sure the suction screen is clean for the oil pump before re-assembly.

spruce up a tired motor?

The motor wasn't noisey and it didn't smoke, It ran well at speed but when I tried pushing it a little I could feel lower end vibration coming from the engine which felt like crank and not like it was from the rods, also after it was warm and I shut it off it would puff a little blue smoke at start up so the valve seals are worn or cracked, all in all it is just a tired motor and I am hoping to find a 300 to replace the 240 with. If it wasn't already bored 40 over I would just buy a 300 crank and stroke the 240 block to a 300 and use the 240 head to increase the compression, install a comp cam and a clifford manifold with a holley 390 cfm carb, a set of headers with dual exhaust and call it good.

Nice truck... Are the walls worn? seems like the bearing has ussuall wear, from low oil perahaps. I would say, if the cylinder wals are good, no scores, why not hone it, put new bearings, and let it rip 1 more time...

Looks like I found a gem...... a rebuilt ford 300 6 that has everything new, engine was decked and bored 30 over with a crank grind that is 10/10, the crank was then balanced, it has a performance cam, chrome moly rings, new water pump, new thermostat, new fly wheel, new distributor, new motor mounts, new fuel pump, new intake manifold and new exhaust manifold and a new carburetor, it also comes with a offenhauser 4 bbl manifold. it should be a drop in and go installation.
Guess I better get to cleaning up the engine compartment.
Here's some pic's.

Wow it's so clean, I just pull the 302 out of my 76 and rebuilt it. Now it looks as good as that one does. Are you putting the 4bbl intake on it?

Hey Overland

Can you email me a high resolution copy of the picture of your new 300. I have a alternator bracket issue, and I need to know what the right bracket looks like. I think your new engine has the same bracket on it.

My issue is mentioned in another thread, and it is that there is no place for the hold bolt to hold. I have no sliding bolt bracket. I just have the pivot point.

If you can send me a high res copy of that picture it would really help me.

I will be installing the Offenhauser manifold once the engine is in an I am sure it runs OK, I will need a holley 390 carb and a set of split manifolds or headers to complete the install.

Why is it that no one is ever honest anymore, when someone says "I have a Offenhauser intake that goes with the motor" you assume since they didn't say anything that it's a good useable intake, however when he shows up with the motor he forgot to tell me the intake is a broken pile of crap and not useable because the mounts are either broken, cracked or rewelded crooked. Sorta took the fun out of it!
