Doe?s my F350 qualify for Truck plates
I own a 2004 F350 Superduty, extended cab, long bed, V10. It is stock. I called DMV and asked about replacing my passenger tags with "Truck" plates and their answer was not clear.
They told me the truck has to have a GVW of >7500 lbs and mine lists as 7500. I told them I had a tool box installed and asked if that would put it over the 7500 lb limit. They weren't sure and suggested I go to a branch. I might rather have a root canal.
Anyone have exerience with this in Virginia.
It is of some personal benefit to me if I can display the Truck tags, as my HOA will allow me to bring the truck into my townhouse community to work on my OWN house but without then I can't.

i'm sure your truck would qualify, but i'm not sure i'd go through the hassle...i wanted to have private truck tags just because when i first got mine. however, i found out you'll be taxed at a much higher rate on the vehicle plus the bother of finding the form to change your gvw and then having a dmv employee come look at your vin sticker to verify...blah blah blah...
besides all of that, the man i dealt with was one of those !@#$ sexist jerks who automatically assumed that i didn't know the first thing about my truck

Man wtf is up when you can't have your private truck parked at your house. I would try and get a waiver or something from the HOA. I do work on houses and am always encountering arbitrary enforcement from HOA's that don't make sense. I could understand a motorhome or boat or semi-trailor. Sorry for your trouble and glad I am in an area that so far is HOA free.

If you register it for a GVW (gross vehicle weight) of 7501 pounds or more, you will get truck tags. GVW is not GVWR which is the manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating that DMV is interested in.
A F-350 probably should have truck tags if it's ever used to haul what it was built for. They weigh 6,000 or more empty.

"Pickup or panel truck" means every motor vehicle designed for the transportation of property and having a registered gross weight of 7,500 pounds or less.
"Truck" means every motor vehicle designed to transport property on its own structure independent of any other vehicle and having a registered gross weight in excess of 7,500 pounds.
