3v. as well as the 2005 and up Expedition, which before 2005 had the 2v. The 3v is about 40 more HP. and 15 more TQ.

hmmmm 3 valve 5.4 ....... if i hang it real high up in the air and push the bird under it and let it fall it might just fit into the engine bay then ............................... or get a real big f-n hammer ....................... cant wait to see how this one goes guy . been running into late model mods all over cheap here . a 99 4.6 out of a vic interceptor i gotta go look at all there and ran when pulled { was gonna go in a 40 ford sedan he's building but got a x code 4 valver instead ! } for $200 , an 03 not 04 as posted 1/2 ton and a wrecked one for 350 bucks maybe { im really trying to convince the other half to let me get the wrecked for parts for the other for her to drive .... YEAH RIGHT !!!!!!! } so your project may provide the needed guidance for my electrically techtarded behind to attempt a few things i got rolling around in my mind

The navi had a 4v 5.4 that required prem fuel up until 2005 then they switched to the 3v.

You are right. I didn't read down far enough on the wiki page.
