2001 Escape Oil Filter Location?
Locating the oil filter on some new vehicles can be tough. Some factory filters are painted black and seem to blend in with their surrounding areas. I believe you will find the filter on your Ford Escape on the drivers side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold. Run the engine for about five minutes to completely warm the oil for a good drain before you start the oil change. You might best access the filter through the wheel well. Use some gloves and filter pliers to crack it loose from under the hood, BE CAREFUL, the exhaust manifold will be very hot, then move to the wheel well opening, lift the rubber flap and you'll see it. The engineers that designed the Escape weren't kind to those of us who do this for a living.
Hope this helps!

thanks. i found it where i least expected it... in the front, angled about 45% from perpendicular with the block.... near the license plate! it's actually a pretty good place for it, easy to see if the mount is clean, etc. however, i'll need to get a wrench for the future, as the slip-around type isn't going to work. thanks again.
