Need my MAine people!

I got pulled over today in my 1995 F350. The cop said lifts were illegal, my 35 inch tires were to large, my tint was illegal, smoked taillights were illegal blah blah. IS it true i cannnot lift my truck (only 2 inch lift, suspension). He said there is a regulation of how high the frame could be. Also said my tires could only be 2 sizes bigger. I bought mine through Town Fair Tire. And then he said i cant have dark tint on the rear window bc its a single cab and needs to be 50%. I thot any truck could have dark tint on the rear windows. Anyway, do i have anything? I get my truck inspected regulary, so someone isnt doing their job right or is this guy just being a dick? He didnt charge me with anything bc he didnt have his code book to do any measuring. Uggg!

Think you might be up against it, brother. here is the link to the http://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/license...n%20Manual.pdf whole deal inspection guide but I copied and pasted the points that are relevant to your specific issues.
and I quote"
(4) Reject vehicle if the vehicle has tinted windows and the
owner of the vehicle cannot provide the Inspection
Technician with a certificate of compliance approved by the
Bureau of the Maine State Police that states that the vehicle
meets the standards set forth by Maine law and this Chapter
for light transmittance.
(a) Any window tinting treatment or covering must be
removed if it fails to meet the inspection standard.
(b) Multipurpose
vehicles such as sport utility vehicles,
pickup
trucks, and vans equipped with tinted glass on
the rear side windows and rear window are exempt
from this requirement.
(8) Reject vehicle if any lens or lamp required by law or
regulation is covered by any device that reduces the amount
of light transmitted or reduces the area of illumination of a
lens or lamp by any amount. This includes, but is not limited
to devices such as tints, baskets, louvers, and mesh covers
that reduce the amount of light transmittance.
J. Vehicle Heights
(1) Frame height limits are based on the manufacturer’s gross
vehicle weight rating of the vehicle. Heavyduty
springs will
not be considered to increase the gross vehicle weight rating
over the manufacturers original rating.
(2) Frame end measurement must be taken when the vehicle is
parked on a level surface with the vehicle unladed. All tires
must be inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended tire
pressure.
(3) Measurements must be taken from a level surface to the
bottom edge of the original manufacturer’s frame rail. The
frame rail must be measured at the end where the bumper
brackets attach. Any frame component or subframes
added
to the vehicle after original manufacture shall be disregarded
for purposes of frame height measurements.
(a) Reject vehicle if the frame height exceeds the
specifications established in this section.
(4) Maximum frame end heights are established by Maine statute
and are restated below;
Type of Vehicle Front Rear
Vehicles up to and including 4,500 lbs GVWR 24 inches 26 inches
Vehicles from 4,501 lbs. to 7,501 lbs. GVWR 27 inches 29 inches
Vehicles from 7,501 lbs. to 10,000 lbs. GVWR 28 inches 30 inches
(5) Reject vehicle if the minimum frame end height is less than
10 inches, or less than the frame end height if the vehicle was
originally manufactured lower than 10 inches. Street rods
and custom vehicles are exempt from this requirement.
(6) Suspension lifts are permitted if they are manufactured by an
after market manufacturer, are designed for the make and
model vehicle on which they are installed, and if the kit is
installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
The entire kit must be used.
(7) Lowering kits are permitted if they are manufactured by an
after market manufacturer, are designed for the make and
model vehicle on which they are installed, and if the kit is
installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
The entire kit must be used.
(8) Body lifts are permitted on any vehicle that is not equipped
with an antilock
braking system, provided that they are
manufactured by an after market manufacturer, are designed
for the make and model vehicle on which they are installed,
and the kit is installed according to the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
(9) Body lifts may not use more than a threeinch
spacer.
(k) Reject vehicle if it is equipped with tires that are more
than 2 sizes larger or smaller than manufacturer’s
recommended tire sizes, or if any tire change results
in more than a two inch
change in overall tire
diameter.

this one killed me. couldn't get a sticker cause the washer fluid didn't work. actually, the canister is missing.
"(6) Reject vehicle if the windshield washer system fails to
function."

all part of the service...
I don't know what the deal is. I pulled out of the garage that failed me and drove two miles down the road and the guy threw a sticker on it laughing that he had never heard such nonsense as lack of washer fluid failing

Wait till you get a ticket then take it to court and tell 'em an approved garage inspected your truck, it's all legal, and the cop mis-interpreted the lift-laws. That's what I would do! And I my T-bird has a sticker in the door post and a letter with a sample of the window tint saying its legal.....some places ask and some don't when I get an inspection sticker.

In the man time don't f--k off in your truck attracting the wrong kind of attention, if you know what I mean

I dig. My frame heigh is only 25 inches from under the cab, ground the bottom of frame rail, and 31 inches from the bottom of rear frame to ground. The law states that a 7,000-10,000GVW can be between 27-30inches. which i am roughly in. so my lift is legal. Now do you think if i was to exchange my rims for bigger ones that but keep the same tire size that i could get around the tire law if its just the rim being bigger?

the deal is now that they are so strict on the inspection stations they would probably ticket you and then go to the station and fine them for not enforcing the law. One near me has been fined twice to the tune of $10k. Now the first one, they deserved, the second was nit picky crap that made the guy straight by the book to include washer fluid. I read somewhere that the state is talking about toughening the standards again and making it a two year sticker.

Heres what busts my bubble. All I enjoy doing in my life is modding my old truck, and making it much prettier than most others around. I put a lot of time into it and money, and then have a cop give me a hard time about it personally offends me because I am a clean cut kid. I dont drink ,or smoke ,and dont participate in any type of illegal activites, all I want to do is make my truck look cool. I really wish cops would invest more time bothering the kids who do dumb stuff like drink and drive then pull over a guy whos truck is 14 years old and obviusouly has put a lot of effort into the truck. It just kills me. And thats what I told the cop, and even he agreed and said the truck was amazing and that I was a well mannered boy. So, i mean if i lose my cool points on my truck is makes me really sad.. On top of this, I just bought a new car, because I needed something that was going to allow me to drive around town without always having to use my single cab f350 that gets 7mpg. I drove my F350 around with no problems for 3 years, and now that I dont even use it nearly as much, is when I get busted? WTF

The frame height law is foolish, really....

My 67 F-250 4x is 36 inches rear, all stock with pizza cutter tires....so according to the laws it would be illegal!

Anyway, I once got a ticket for a loud exhaust ( which I had) and I had to get a paper signed by an inspection station after I fixed it saying it was A-OK, then return it within 30 days, I believe, to the Police Dept.

I'm kinda wondering how the next inspection will go since I added a 3" bodylift....hopefully well!!
