Kickdown cable.

I have a 1988 F250/351w. I was replacing the TBS when either i broke the Transmission kick down cable or it was already broke. This is not a DD, it is and was purchased to mud bog. no road driving or anything along that nature. Just mud. My question is this. Can i get by without having to buy another cable? just run without it connected?

If it's an AOD tranny the answer is no the tranny will be burnt before you get out of the driveway.

My guess is that it is a C6 so you can do without the cable.

First thing you need to do is identify what transmission you have. Get under and count the number of bolts around the transmission oil pan. If there are 17 bolts you have a C6 and if 14 you have an AOD. Like Conanski says if it is an AOD you will fry it without the cable.

Shawn, I'd put the cable back on and if your not sure how to properly set if,I'd have the tranny shop do it. Like others have said if you leave it off or don't adjust the new one properly you'll burn out the clutches in it.

if you have a c6 and just want to race it i don't know about mud racing but for drag racing we just sip tie the kickdown linkage on the tranny so the tranny thinks the kickdown is engaged all the time
