Working on my dad's truck and I've looked at several sites for the transmission decoder but can't find one that dates back to an '89. The trans code on the door is 'w'.

I know that the engine is a 5.8L

is it a automatic or stick.

 

It is stick shift. 4sp w/od ultra granny gear

 

New process 435 or a T18. A NP435 has an aluminum top cover. A T18 has a cast iron one
