F53 chassis parts ... Help !!!!

Hi,

I am modifying an 99 bounder motorhome for my fiance ... equipping it with a wheelchair lift, hospital bed, ect .....( she is paralyzed from the shoulder down and seldom traveled as she needs medical care every 4 hours).

Just a few weeks to the wedding and I am trying to finish up the project.

I am having problems finding parts! Places like NAPA could not even find a listing for the darn belt on the motor!

It uses a ford F53 chassis with the V10.

My immediate need is for a headlight switch. Ford has them but quoted over $200 for it!

Is there any aftermarket for these parts????

Is there some type of ford manual with part #'s I can get for this chassis?

Thanks .... Mike

Is this a motorhome built on a Ford chassis that never had a cab on it just a bare frame with axles and engine ?

As for the fan belt if you can get the number off the original belt you can cross reference it.

If its a E series built motorhome ie a motorhome with a E series cab and motorhome body just use a E-350 cab and chassis when ordering parts.

If its a complete aftermarket body then stuff like light switches are going to be tough. Start looking for aftermarket parts. Yes there are after market headlight switches. Manufactures like KEM have aftermarket switches.

Everything nowwadays is all done through a computer you will have to find a store that still uses books for part look up. I know around here the parts store uses both but they use the computer the most. They want the make model etc before you can even start.

In your case you may have to cross reference every part to get the right part.

I had a 98 Bounder with a V10 for over 6 years. I was able to find the a lot of new parts at Beaudry RV in Tucson Arizona.

You also might try the Arizona RV Salvage yard ARIZONA RV SALVAGE - 2737 W. Lincoln, Phoenix, AZ 85009; toll free: (877) 824-8242, (602) 272-0301; fax: (602) 272-3072

You also might want to check out this link, lots of info on RV Salvage.

Even thought I live in Texas, I find that Arizona is the RV capitol of the Southwest!

it started as a bare 53 chassis ....

Hey!

From what I can tell it started as a bare F53 chassis.

I got the belt by looking at the old # ( which both ford and NAPA said didn't exist anymore) and finding a cross reference on the web.

The light switch is a problem. The RV dealer is saying it is a ford part.

Ford said they can order it but it is over $200 !

Most places I call say if I can get a #, they will see if they can get it,

Soooooo .... I am looking for a part # for this switch.

Thanks .... Mike

A head light switch isn't 200 dollars I would try cross referencing it to a aftermarket supplier. A headlight switch at the most would be 100 dollars.

Unless the light switch has a Ford part number it is a Ford part if not its the body manufacture supplied.

I think the Ford dealer is screwing you around if they are saying 200 dollars.

Try looking up the number its probably the same switch used in a E series van.

The F53 chassis is basically an F-series platform, not E-series.

Take a picture of the switch and post it if you can. I suspect it's the same as the rest of the F-series trucks. For instance, if you were to get a switch for a '99 F250/350, it would be the same thing.

Not sure where you can get a parts listing for it, Ford should have the part diagrams on their computer for the F53 chassis.

Does it look like this:

From rockauto.com, one of our sponsors. $101.79 as an AC DELCO part, or $81.79 from Motorcraft. I looked up a 1999 F550 through their website.

Figured out the confusion!!!!!!!!

I was baffled to see this switch. It looks correct but mine has 4 holes in the corners.

I took mine out and looked at it.

It is obvious that the motor home manufacturer drilled the holes himself to mount this switch ... they are not evenly drilled and self tapping screws just rammed in ( and cracked the corners out).

Thanks so much !!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot better than $200 at the local dealer !!!!!!!

Just FYI .... If anyone is interested in seeing the modifications I am making to the motor home, I have pictures at http://mcsele.shutterfly.com

I hope I have gotten past the worst problems .... had to drill out several broken exhaust studs .... had 7 transmission pan bolts come out with aluminum on the threads ..... was very, very careful when torquing down the spark plugs ( this is a V10 BTW) ..... had the brakes lock up on me the other day ( new calipers and pads all around) ..... this on top of 6 months of work to install a door, wheelchair lift and lift on the inside of the unit.

Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!

Mike
