hood release

I know on my truck you have to pull the release from through the grill, but I was looking at some pics and I noticed something.

as you can see he has a hood release bar just like for the parkbrake. was this only put on higher trim trucks or is this aftermarket?

Don't know if it was a option; but I seen folks mention using a Econoline van hood release in the form you have yours. Excellent interior I must add.

It was an option on higher trim line trucks. You can add one to your truck as I did to mine. I got off of ebay, replaced the cable and then installed it in my truck. The one in your picture is not what came in our trucks. Ours was a lockable "T" handle that used the same key as the ignition. That was a option I think only on '79s.
(The Below is a Bronco Brochure,But its most likely the same.)

BTW:My truck has the outside hood release.(Which I think is better,because what happens when the hood release cable etc break?,The outside one is better IMO,But whatever you do,its your beautiful truck... Just make sure you don't be to rough on him/her).
I didn't know your truck was a 3 on the three...
My dads '66 IH was like that...(I'LL show the only surviving picture of it sometime...)
I wish my truck was as nice as yours,well at least my truck has a racing engine in it.

Looks like handle I pulled from a 80's truck. Got that and a hood release from a early 90's van at the junkyard real cheap. I think the late 80's trucks had the hood release handle and parking brake hardware integrated together. I'm sure someone will correct me.

This is not original, it's from another Ford vehicle made after 1979.

Ford only offered a locking hood cable for these trucks.

The original cable (D5DZ16914A) has a hole in the handle for the lock cylinder (D8TZ16978A) to fit into.

The locking hood feature was an option beginning in 1978 for F100/350's & Bronco's.

But, Ford also offered an over-the-parts counter installation kit (D8TZ16700A) that fits ALL 1973/79 F100/350's...and 1978/79 Bronco's.

The Econolines also came with the same setup as an option (1975/91). ALL the parts are the same EXCEPT the cable.

The Econoline's front end is shorter, so its cable is shorter.

There is another thread running in this forum on the cable. Two members need one, wanted to know what else it fits.

D5DZ16914A .. Locking Hood Cable

Fits: 1975/76 Granada/Mercury Monarch / 1973/79 F100/350 and 1978/79 Bronco.

I found TWO of these cables NOS, posted the info on the two Ford Dealers who have them, either yesterday, or early this AM.

This cable is VERY hard to find new...or used.

Obsolete parts are hard to find....If you snooze...you loose!

Bill, thanks for that clarification. I kinda figured that it was from something after 1979. I thought I've seen those in later model vehicles, but I wasn't for sure.
