Vibration when brakes applied

Okay, here we go...

Truck: '05 FX4 SCREW with approx 51,xxx miles. Original rotors and hawk brake pads installed about 10,xxx miles ago.

Background: Truck was running fine until about 2-weeks ago. The truck was parked for two months with the Negative battery side disconnected as I was out of town on business. Before the truck was parked there were no issues.

Issue: Since re-connecting the battery I've had a vibration when the brakes are applied....it doesn't matter what speed, the vibration just increases and shakes the truck harder as the speed increases. It almost feels like its something in the ABS system, but I haven't pulled codes. No idiot lights on the dash. From the driver's seat, everything appears normal until the brakes are used.

So....any thoughts? I'm planning to pull codes tomorrow. I'll post my results. I don't believe it to be a flat spot on the tire since there is no vibration under normal driving. I don't believe it's a warped rotor since I didn't have this issue prior to parking the truck.

When the ABS goes off you'll feel a constant pulse/feedback in the pedal. I'd look for some rust buildup on the rotors. Maybe take the pads out check them out?

jzleach,

I hate to say this but I believe it is rust that formed between the barke pad and rotor, I have the same problem, my truck was hardly driven on weekends all winter long and I noticed it getting worse.
I now have about 32K miles on the truck, it needs new pads in the back, rotors either needs replacing or have them turned, it feels like it from the rear barkes causing the shake but I could be wrong.

I had the same problem with a Honda Civic that sat all winter long, it was fixed with new brake pads and front rotors, back didn't need it because it had brake drums....

Thanks folks....I'll check it out....I understand that rust could make sense, but I would've thought I'd knock it off by now I guess.....
