Turn signal flashers too slow

Is there an easy (i.e. cheap) way to change the flasher relay so the turn signals blink faster? I'm able to make my lane change/turn before completing two flashes of the turn signal light!

Do the emergency flashers act the same?

Dont know what you're driving, but if it has seperate emergency & turn signal flashers, try swapping them with each other.

Newer Fords (like my 95 Taurus) have only one electronic flasher, that operates both emergency flashers & turn signals.

How is your battery charging? This happened to me before my alternator kicked the can.

An 89 will - i believe- have 2 flashers and you can try swapping them with each other.

I really like nnero's idea of checking the voltage.

With engine off the battery should read around 12.6 volts.

Engine running should read around 14 volts.

Post back with your numbers..

Battery voltage checks out fine. My signals have been slow for all ten years that I've owned the truck, just now motivated to change it -- maybe it's an HD flasher??

My 96 has two flashers, if yours is the same they are located on the fuse panel inside the cab. One is on the front and the other is directly behind it on the back side of the fuse block. You will need the two prong style flasher. Even if it is a HD flasher it should flash faster than that. As far as pricing the regular flashers are fairly cheap, the hd flashers that I use run around $20 at NAPA.

Probably a wrong flasher on it.

I believe the turn signal & hazard flashers uses the same part, so buy a HD flasher for both.
